I am a Canadian mental health advocate, public speaker, life coach and alpinist. Four years ago, I created my project, ‘’Overcoming mental illness one summit at a time’’, in order to raise mental health awareness and to help the population understand that no matter our past and our fears, that everyone of our dreams is possible.

WHAT WAS THE MAJOR TURNING POINT IN YOUR RECOVERY FROM DEPRESSION?

At the age of 36, after a work injury and a second major depression, I finally had the courage to reach out for help. For me, it’s the hardest mountain I ever had to climb. With the help of professionals and medication, I was able to climb out of depression.

I also recently started a treatment for bipolar type 2 disorder. I honestly feel like I just came out of a storm, and that for the first time ever, I can live my life to the fullest.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT REALLY HELPED?

Sharing my journey with depression is the most powerful tool to heal myself and to help others. Everyone of us as a story to share that can help and inspire somebody else

I love the contact with nature, to feel the wind on my face, to be out in the outdoors as it helped me discover who I really was. Everyday, take a few minutes to get outside, to move and to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Following my passion for mountain climbing has taught me to believe in myself and to really take care of myself. Whatever passion you may have, just follow it, it is one of the keys towards your happiness.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHER GUYS FIGHTING DEPRESSION?

Remember, asking for help is a proof of courage, not a weakness. It takes a lot of courage to brave the storm. Without this first step, you will never be able to reach the summit of your dreams.
