Kevin Kokoska

My work is relational, emotion-focused, and experiential. Relational means that I strive to make a unique and genuine connection with those I work with. Emotion-focused means that I help people pay attention to old emotional patterns that may no longer be serving them. And experiential means that I don’t just talk to people about changing these patterns, I offer experiences of forming new and preferred patterns that are conducive to their therapy goals.

Through my work, I realized how much pressure people experienced in their day-to-day lives and the effects this had on their relationship with themselves and others. Through my therapeutic work, I observed the consequences of society placing such a strong emphasis on perfectionism, a hyper-vigilance on “fixing” oneself, and external merit. Seeing adults, teens, and children struggling to understand their identity, self-worth, and values motivated me to gain expertise in various therapeutic modalities. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, and trauma, self-worth, identity, and relationships, and narrative as well as mindfulness approaches.

I have significant experience working with men, and have developed a real sensitivity and empathy for the struggle many men face in opening up about, and making sense of their emotions. I believe we all have different ways of expressing ourselves and that using emotional language is not the only – or the correct – way to navigate our experience and relationships. If you are worried about being constantly asked how you feel, or about long awkward silences in the therapy room, that’s not what you will find here. I use humour, directness, prompts, helpful strategies, and most importantly, I work alongside you in a very human and engaged way. Our sessions will be collaborative and lead by what feels helpful to you.

I practice from an anti-oppressive, intersectional feminist, and trauma-informed lens. To be grounded in anti-oppressive practice from an intersection feminist lens means recognizing and examining the harmful systems that impact individual’s mental health. Pain and suffering are not created in a vacuum, but rather experienced as a result of the unjust systems that influence daily living. These influences can include patriarchy, capitalism, colonialism, heteronormativity, and prescribed gender norms.

Michael Gintowt

Pragmatic and Solution Oriented. First, I clear up any vague or unclear treatment goals or confusions. Before assuming that there is a problem based on faulty thinking, I review the basic life situation to make sure that basic human needs are being met. I take into account any impulses and direction that come from the deeper, more authentic Self (psycho-spiritual issues). When indicated, I will work with dreams, metaphor, and imagination. On a good day, I help people make the necessary changes to their inner and outer worlds, so their goals are met.
