I work within an integrative approach, utilizing person-centered, CBT, ACT, DBT, IPT, IFS, EFT and psychodynamic interventions. I consider the individual and their presenting concerns, thus pulling from different orientations to best suit my client. My approach to psychotherapy relies heavily on existential ideologies, highlighting our shared human experience of daily struggles and pain and suffering. I also recognize the uniqueness of each of our stories and strengths, creating a therapy where one leaves with more insight and trust within thyself.

I have worked with individuals dealing with a broad range of concerns for over 15 years. This includes periodic difficulties (e.g. depression, anxiety, addiction, and insomnia), and more persistent concerns (e.g. maladaptive coping, relationship difficulties, and low self-esteem).
I use a flexible approach drawing on training and experience in a number of theoretical orientations including: mindfulness-based, cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, and humanistic therapy. I work with clients to establish meaningful and concrete therapeutic goals that form the basis for monitoring progress.

Fit is everything in therapy, without it you can feel like you’re spinning your wheels wasting time and money, just not getting the results you want from your investment. The men who work well with me prefer someone who is no-nonsense, likes to laugh, swears a lot, and does not take themselves too seriously,. At the same time, I’m down for tackling serious, dark, gnarly issues that you may never have been willing to even say out loud.
I’m also a semi-retired dentist (weird combo, I know), with extensive expertise in chronic pain and serious health issues. I work with pain patients and caregivers to manage the wear and tear that pain and illness has on folks and their families.
Sound like maybe a good fit? Reach out.

I am a therapist providing individual care for youth (12+) and adults out of Ottawa, Ontario, the traditional, unceded territories of the Algonquin nation. In my work, I provide a trauma-informed space for people to unpack their stories, so that together we can create individualized, holistic plans of care.
I practice from an anti-racist, anti-oppressive framework and specialize in locating individual struggle within the larger picture of peoples’ lives and society. My aim is to not only support individuals during the time we work together, but to co-create tools of mental wellness that they can engage with for the rest of their lives.

My approach to therapy is grounded in social justice and anti-oppression, and guided by narrative frameworks. I believe our lives are shaped by the stories we and others tell us about who we are. When we decide to come to therapy, it’s often because stories about problems (and about how WE are a problem) are dominating our lives. My role is to help you examine these stories and your relationship to them, and to explore, create, and sometimes change the stories in your life.

I focus on anxiety, issues impacting men, depression, addiction, life changes, relationship issues and grief and bereavement counselling. I am also part of a consultation group on gender, identity and sexuality. I believe we all have many stories to tell. Each story being unique, meaningful and worth telling. Through this process of telling these story-telling, we begin to heal wounds and find ourselves again. The many stories of my life led me through loss, grief, stress and pain but also joy, connection, meaning and love. I aim to provide a safe and non-judgemental space for people to discuss their emotions, thoughts and behaviours, and engage in a plan to create a rich and meaningful life.

Men are often taught from a young age that it’s not “manly” to admit that they’re struggling. This can lead to men feeling ashamed and embarrassed about their mental health problems, which prevents them from seeking treatment.
However, it’s important for men to realize that there is no shame in seeking help. In fact, therapy is a very effective way to treat mental health issues, and there are many qualified therapists who specialize in helping men. I treat you as the valuable individual you are, and I give you my full attention. I believe in collaboration, so we work together as a team. Let’s work together to make changes for the better.
I draw from CBT to assess and explore how your thinking, assumptions, and beliefs inform your mood and behaviours. I draw from Psychodynamic Therapy to explore your past, relationships, and defense mechanisms that you have adopted over the years. Lastly, and most importantly, I draw from various schools and techniques to match your unique situation.

In my experience, and according to research, the biggest factor in how well therapy works is the client-therapist relationship. That’s one reason you can expect me to be genuine, empathetic, positive, and affirming. Also, I don’t have a “one size fits all” approach to therapy. Instead, I will work with you to custom-fit a therapy experience based on your unique needs and expressed concerns.

Accepting NEW Clients (Individuals and Couples) – Are you feeling “stuck” in life and you’re looking for a way to better understand the steps forward? Have you heard of EMDR and you want to learn more about working through trauma and its impacts on your life? Is anxiety, stress, or low mood something you want to explore and learn strategies to cope differently? Are you a couple looking to work through infidelity, sexuality, or just simply want the skills to better communicate and understand each other?
I work with individuals and couples, where I also consider the impact of trauma and culture in the issues you’re looking to be supported with.
