I believe each client has unique needs which is why I take my lead from each client. Whether you’re feeling lonely, isolated, unwanted, or stressed; I will take the time to get to know your concerns first. Once we have identified your main concerns, we can work collaboratively towards your goals. I have experience working with adult men and seniors through crisis prevention and individual counselling. I currently provide virtual therapy as well as in-person counselling at my office in downtown Hamilton to adults 18+. Some approaches that I utilize are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Overall, I aim to provide a space where clients feel safe discussing their mental health.

I take a holistic approach to mental health, and have worked in fitness and areas of spirituality prior to my work as a therapist. I help men figure out their lives as they reconsider their past, close the chapters they have yet to close, and move on to the next phase of their journey. Whatever the issue, I like to attack both symptoms and the roots of whatever ails you with a mix of Cognitive-Behavioural and Narrative therapeutic approaches.

Maria Orrego
Maria Orrego
Maria’s education and experience have led her to a profound passion for the restoration of people. With a background in psychology, she values understanding how the human mind functions on a day-to-day basis. Her education and experience include working in areas of relationship issues, trauma, grief, sex and sexuality issues and stress. She believes that therapy should never be seen as a failure, but rather as an avenue of growth and restoration. Maria is trained and experienced in using different modalities and theoretical frameworks that include but are not limited to Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Focused approaches, CBT and Solution-Focused Therapy.

I hear you. I believe in you. I care. I believe therapy is beneficial because it allows people to share their stories in an environment that is safe and considers their unique needs. I strive to validate people’s emotions (because they are understandable), to highlight their strengths (because sometimes people can’t see them) and to build hope (because it can be restored). My approach draws from the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and person-centred techniques amongst others. I aim to help people better understand emotions, process difficult experiences, address unhelpful behaviours and work towards the life they want.

Do you feel like you’re never good enough, or that you have to please others? Do you wish you could put yourself first more often, and make your wants and needs a priority? Do you struggle with confidence or self-esteem, stress, anxiety, and low-mood? Have you experienced trauma that follows you around? Would you like a better understanding of your behaviours in general, or in friendships and relationships? Together we can look at exploring the strengths, relationships, and experiences that have got you to this point, and move forward in a way that reconnects you with yourself and your goals. My areas of interest are mood (anxiety, stress, depression), self-esteem, Trauma, ADHD, relationship issues, and life transitions.

Are you hoping to improve your mood and return to “feeling like yourself” again? Do you feel trapped by your triggers, traumas, or experiences, and want to better understand how your thoughts and feelings today are still connected to the past? Do you want a therapist who takes into consideration your values and background to help connect you to your experiences of past, present and future? If this sounds like you, together we can explore the ways you’re struggling or hoping to learn more about yourself in our work. I support both individuals and couples through their journeys. I hold a Masters of Counselling Psychology from Adler University and I am an EMDR Trauma practitioner which connects emotions, the body, and our traumas to heal.

Hello! My name is Matthew, and I help men who feel weighed down by stress, self-doubt, or the pressure to have it all together. In therapy, we’ll untangle the messages from your past that hold you back, build healthier ways to cope, and foster the confidence and clarity you have inside. My goal is to create a space where you don’t have to carry everything alone and you can go through the process without judgement.

My clients receive a genuine, dedicated, and committed therapist. I always make sure I am checking in and seeking feedback to ensure our time together is meaningful and beneficial. I have been told many times that I am approachable, funny, and easy to talk to. If I can make someone laugh when they are dealing with a difficult situation, then why not? I am straight-forward and supportive. I have a decade of experience as a social worker and have the clinical skills to know how to approach different personalities in order to build rapport in a short time frame.

For me, therapy is primarily about health, not illness. I believe that depression is a false story about who you believe you are. I work with men to help them discover the strong and capable person beneath the problems who is able to find a solid place in life. I have been a psychotherapist for 35 years and am eclectic and flexible in my approach to others according to their needs and abilities.
I have always been interested in what makes the world tick. After graduating from university I travelled, worked in a scrapyard, did furniture moving, courier delivery and worked as a driver for the disabled. I then followed this up with social service jobs in the YMCA and the government. However, I still felt unfulfilled in my search regarding life. And gradually it came to me: people, and what drives them, have created all of history. In this way I was led to my study of psychology, and my past 30 years in private practice have been a dream job.
