Dr. Stephen Adams-Langley
Dr. Stephen Adams-Langley
I provide short-term solution-focused therapy and long-term psychotherapy. I have been working with a wide range of issues including panic attacks and anxiety, bereavement, stress, addictions, relationship difficulties, sexuality, depression and loss of meaning, for over 25 years. Drawing from cognitive behavioural therapy, humanistic/person centred, psychodynamic, brief solution-focused therapy and existential approaches, I adapt the theory to each individual client. My aim is to clarify those aspects of your life that cause distress, confusion or anger and lead to feeling stuck, blocked, unfulfilled and desperate. Through exploration and clarification we can explore options and choices and come to terms with our issues.

Would you like someone to really listen to you – who will give you time and space to express how you are, or to explore what might be wrong, without making judgements about you? I’ve been working in this field for over twenty years and can offer a range of approaches for tackling issues such as depression, anxiety, addictions and relationship problems. You are welcome to text, email or call me for a free initial chat. See my website for more details about me, how I work and how to make contact.

I work in a Person-Centred approach, which means offering and holding a space of understanding, acceptance and authenticity, that is ultimately led by you. It’s an approach that I feel attuned to due to its philosophy, its attempts to address power and how it can facilitate people in their process and journey of change, whatever that may be. I am interested in concepts of masculinity and the complex feelings of mixed heritage being born into a family with a background of different nationalities.

‘Something incredible happens when you open up to another human who you click with and who is trained to listen and support.’
The way I work is flexible. I meet you as an individual and will accept you exactly as you are, and try to see the world through your eyes. I will listen to you, really hear you and will be as genuine as I can, offering you time and space to find the answers you are looking for. I will not judge or critique you, tell you what to do, think or say, or who you should be. I will always meet you with unconditional positive regard, helping you to explore and navigate towards new insights and perspectives which can bring about a better way of relating to yourself, others or situations which you may find challenging.

Counselling, psychotherapy and coaching in Soho, London and online.
Therapy for stress, anxiety, depression, relationship and sexuality issues, substance use, health conditions and HIV.
Many of us experience low mood, stress or anxiety in our lives and the talking therapy that I offer provides a safe space to really help. Sometimes clients just can’t put a finger on what is troubling them or causing them to feel blocked – early stages of our work together would sensitively explore this and help to establish goals so that you can, over time, appreciate your progress.
I have specific Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training to help you if you are experiencing sleep problems, panic, phobias, and some forms of trauma and OCD.

I will gently challenge to see what’s REALLY going on.
I don’t just ask ‘how does that feel?’ I help you explore issues with the purpose of achieving change and a better future.

If this sounds familiar, I can help. I offer a safe, confidential space to talk things through and understand yourself better. I came to this work because I believe people don’t need to stay stuck in the situations they find themselves in.
I’m a fully qualified, BACP-registered therapist, trained in psychodynamic and trauma-informed therapy. I work with people 18+ on issues including trauma, sexual assault, addiction, bullying, boarding school, family relationships, domestic abuse and LGBT+ concerns.
