In Memoriam Contributions

HONOUR AND CELEBRATE THE MEMORY OF SOMEONE IMPORTANT TO YOU

Having a friend, family member, co-worker, or acquaintance die by suicide can leave us grappling with overwhelming feelings of grief and disorientation. Losing someone to suicide is incredibly painful. We extend our heartfelt condolences and offer guidance on how to navigate the grieving process after a suicide.

Every life is unique, and the decision of how best to honour someone is deeply personal. We are profoundly touched by the donations we’ve received in memory of men who have died by suicide, and we are unwavering in our commitment to work toward preventing such heartbreaking deaths.

Some of men (husbands, boyfriends, fathers, sons, brothers, uncles, and nephews) whose lives have been honoured by their community through donations to HeadsUpGuys include:

  • Brent Bampton | Friends and Family
  • Graeme Barnes | Friends and Family
  • Liam Castle | Friend and Family
  • Tony Cinelli | Friends and Family
  • Dylan Forsyth | Friends and Family
  • Iohan Gueorguiev | Friends and Family
  • Luke Macdonald | University of Guelph Gryphon Rugby Team
  • Scott McKercher | Friends and Family
  • Robert John Neild | Friends and Family
  • Kyle Sherbaty | Friends and Family
  • Justin Tal | Big Guy Classic Golf Tournament

ASK YOUR COMMUNITY FOR DONATIONS IN LIEU OF FLOWERS

Photos and reminders of Dylan and Liam

Join other families who have chosen to request donations to HeadsUpGuys in lieu of flowers as a lasting tribute to their loved one. These contributions honour their memory by advancing men’s mental health initiatives, helping to prevent more suicide deaths by men.

Friends and family members can then be encouraged to support HeadsUpGuys, advancing our mission of promoting men’s mental well-being, and potentially initiating much needed conversations with men in your community.

If you have already set up an In Memoriam page (as outlined above), you can direct supporters to that page.

HOST A FUNDRAISER OR DONATING TO HEADSUPGUYS

HeadsUpGuys is currently transitioning from UBC to become our own non-profit society and charity

Having developed and grown within the University of British Columbia (UBC) for our first decade, we are now in the process of becoming an independent non-profit society. As such, UBC will no longer be accepting or processing donations for HeadsUpGuys.

As part of this transition, we have now incorporated as a non-profit society with the name HeadsUpGuys Society.

At this stage, HeadsUpGuys Society is not yet able to issue tax receipts for donations. (The process to become a registered charity in Canada, which allows for issuing tax receipts, typically takes up to a year.)

We hope this does not serve as a barrier to supporting the critical work of HeadsUpGuys.

We are currently able to accept donations via cheque.

  • To donate and support our work, please contact us at [email protected] for instructions.

We’ll continue to share updates as we move through this transition and into the next era of HeadsUpGuys.
