It's never a bad idea to be prepared

Creating a simple resources cheat-sheet gives you quick answers if someone asks where to turn for help, and helps you feel more confident and comfortable in your role as a supporter.

We’ve provided a template below to help you get started. Fill it out with contact info and links and save it on your phone, or print a copy that you can share. Feel free to customize it as you see fit. You might want to add in a quote from this section that resonated with you, or a reminder for yourself that you’re not expected to be an expert.

If you’re unsure of where to find this information, try searching “[your location] + ‘mental health centre’” or “men’s groups in my area.” HeadsUpGuys has information on crisis lines.

  • Crisis Line for my area: _________
  • Local Mental Health Centres: _______
  • Local Hospitals: ______
  • Other local services (like men’s groups): ______
  • Online Resources: HeadsUpGuys.org

In the final section of the Peer Support Course, we remind ourselves that being a good source of support involves looking after our own mental health too.
