Before moving on to the next section of the course, take a couple minutes to reflect on your own experiences of receiving support during a difficult time.

Consider the following:

  • What was happening at the time?
  • How were you feeling, both mentally and physically?
  • Did you open up to anyone? Why or why not?

Once you’ve reflected on the situation, think about the support that helped you the most:

  • Who was it that supported you? (this could be a friend, family member, coworker, etc)
  • What did they do that helped you?
  • How did their support make you feel?
  • What difference did their support make to your ability to cope and move forward?
  • What are some things that may have helped more?

Important Note

Peer support is not a substitute for therapy or other mental health treatment. If you or the person you’re supporting requires professional care, it’s important to seek help from a qualified healthcare provider.
