Friends talking about suicidal thoughts

"Many men, including those who have tried to end their lives, have recovered from depression and suicidal thoughts."

We’ve gathered all the content on HeadsUpGuys about preventing suicide and fighting suicidal thoughts here.

According to the World Health Organization, men account for 75-80% of deaths by suicide, with depression being one of the leading risk factors.

Suicide isn’t a topic we should shy away from or avoid talking about just because it’s hard. Having conversations with someone you’re worried about is extremely important to letting them know you care. Likewise, if you are feeling suicidal it’s crucial to reach out and seek support. You don’t need to fight depression on your own.

It’s important to also pay attention to how we talk about suicide, as many of the terms we currently use carry harmful connotations which contribute to the shame and silence surrounding suicide. By rephrasing how we talk about suicide, we encourage guys to maintain support and combat the stigma that far too often prevents men from reaching out.
